In this talk Peter Dobbs, Director of the University of Vermont's Complex Systems Center, will discuss the speed of stories and why that matters as we enter a new age of story density. His research focuses on system-level, big data problems in many areas including language and stories, sociotechnical systems, earth sciences, biology, and ecology. This work aims to measure and draw inferences from the masses of qualitative data that we share online on a daily basis. He will discuss an array of influencers from Korean boy bands to current political figures and  their journey to the top of lexical stardom.

Peter has created (and constantly evolves) a series of complex systems courses starting with Principles of Complex Systems. He co-runs the Computational Story Lab with Chris Danforth.
