BTV Ignite is an initiative focused on using Burlington’s gigabit broadband infrastructure as a test bed and accelerator for economic, educational, and community benefit. Mike Schirling, BTV Ignite’s new executive director, sees the project as a way to “organize the energy of Burlington’s tech ecosystem.”

The Burlington project is part of US Ignite, a National Science Foundation initiative established in 2012 to work with selected communities nationwide to foster the development of next-generation applications and services made possible by high-speed gigabit networks.

Mike will discuss the goals and opportunities for BTV Ignite and the vision for the initiative to help make the Burlington area a thriving regional tech ecosystem that can attract new start-ups and entrepreneurs and benefit established tech-centric businesses. He’ll talk about and welcome ideas for its success, how other cities have benefited from US Ignite, opportunities arising from Burlington’s participation in a $6 million National Science Foundation next-generation Internet grant, and partnerships with area organizations, including the Vermont Technology Alliance.

  • 12:30 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.: Announcements & Introductions
