Annual Ranking Names Vermont 4th Healthiest State in the U.S.

An annual report called America’s Health Rankings released by the United Health Foundation has named Vermont the fourth healthiest state in the nation in 2018 in its state-by-state rankings.

Hawaii is named the e title of healthiest state after dropping to No. 2 in 2017. The state has been No 1. four of the past five years.  Massachusetts is No. 2, Connecticut No. 3, Vermont No. 4 and Utah No. 5. These same states ranked in the top five in 2017.

America’s Health Rankings is the 29th annual report providing an analysis of national health on a state-by-state basis by evaluating a historical and comprehensive set of health, environmental and socioeconomic data to determine national health benchmarks and state rankings.

The rankings are built upon the World Health Organization definition of health: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Four categories of determinants are included in its model of health: Behaviors, Community and Environment, Policy, and Clinical Care.
